When you stop off in the \u2018Borquine city\u2019, you will quickly notice some prestigious monuments. They are a reminder of the city’s destiny, linked to its abbey. Not to mention the iconic \u2018crucified deer\u2019 roundabout, which also recalls the famous legend…<\/p>\n

The city, named after the patron saint of hunters, has long been considered the most emblematic and mythical city for hunting. In February 1990, this reputation was confirmed when it was designated the \u2018European Capital of Hunting\u2019 by the Federation of Hunting Associations of the EEC.
The title of \u2018European Capital of Nature\u2019, intrinsically linked to the first, was added later.<\/p>\n

Since 2016, Saint-Hubert has also been recognised as the \u2018international capital of the hunting horn\u2019. Although hunting with hounds is not practised in Belgium, this instrument is used during mass, notably by the Royal Forest of Saint-Hubert.<\/p>\n

The Basilica of Saint-Hubert<\/strong>
This is a major pilgrimage site in honour of Saint Hubert, also recognised as an exceptional heritage site in Wallonia.
Although the first foundation dates back to the 7th century, the current building was mainly constructed in the 16th century.<\/p>\n

The basilica is open every day of the year. Guided tours must be booked in advance.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Palais Abbatial\u2019 district<\/strong>
Built in the 18th century, this former abbey complex enhanced the prestige of the abbey and provided accommodation worthy of their rank for distinguished guests, visitors and pilgrims. At the time, it housed the Chancellery of the lands of Saint-Hubert, as well as reception and state rooms.
The renovation work on the Cour d’honneur (main courtyard) aimed to restore the quarter to its original appearance. The gate that you can admire is decorated with allegorical figures evoking the Roman calendar consisting of ten lunar months (from March to December).<\/p>\n

The sainthubertiades<\/strong>
From May 2025 to November 2027, the town of Saint-Hubert will merge to the rhythm of Saint-Hubert jubilees. An ASBL has launched a major cultural, historical, spiritual and festive project under the name \u2018sainthubertiades\u2019 to celebrate three important anniversaries:<\/p>\n
