The hermitage of the "Bois de Niau"
Anglais (GB) North of the village of Resteigne is a large, stony, wooded hill with the ruins of a hermitage. The latter was built in the early 19th century by Edmond d'Hoffschmidt (1777-1861), son of the lord of Resteigne, who lived there in seclusion for several years. It consisted of a large house and a small rock tower. Further up the hill, above the "Source des Rêveries", he had erected a nature altar, which can still be seen. The hermit's walks:- Walk 1: mill (1972) - village - cemetery - castle (3 km loop - 1h30)- Walk 2: hermitage (5km RT - 2 hours)(Source: Jean-Luc Duvivier de Fortemps / Maison du Tourisme du Pays de la Haute-Lesse).
